kreuz und quer Studio
The programme’s controversial content inspired the TV studio design, which broke all the usual broadcast rules to deliver a highly dynamic space.
Requested to design a studio for the cutting-edge Austrian TV programme “kreuz und quer”, which tackled religious and philosophical issues and targeted an intellectual audience, the response of Veech x Veech was to mirror the programme’s edgy content in its design approach.
The architects decided to introduce shadow as a design tool – a radical, unorthodox route to use within broadcast media. The team designed sculptural angular objects clad in aluminium that both created dramatic shadows and refracted light around the space. These worked well against the video backdrop, which layered three projections to create an impactful textual effect. Camera movements enhanced the spatial atmosphere, framing both projected video content and presenter in new compositions that added to the programme identity.
