ntv News Studio
Redefining the Architecture of Journalism for ntv: This evolution marks ntv’s most significant transformation in over a decade, responding to a global media climate where physical presence and architectural permanence serve as vital anchors for journalistic credibility.
Veech x Veech has transformed the ntv news landscape through a radical paradigm shift: the transition from the immateriality of virtual green-screen environments to a tangible, high-performance physical workspace.
As a 24/7 hub for serious journalism, the studio serves as a direct interface to ntv’s global correspondent network, providing a multi-dimensional stage that prioritizes human presence over virtual backgrounds. By defining three primary presentation zones, the reporting is anchored in a reality that is immediately perceptible to the viewer.
Under the leitmotif “Squaring the Frame,” the design deliberately eschews the organic curves and soft forms typical of traditional broadcast sets. This architectural rigor results in a linear language defined by sharp spatial edges. They function as spatial anchor points, enabling a more compact presentation of news and allowing for dynamic, multi-dimensional camera perspectives.“No cutting corners” serves as both an aesthetic principle and a conceptual mandate, mirroring ntv’s commitment to precise, direct, and uncompromising reporting.
The visual language is further refined through a reductive color palette. Neutral grays replace traditional “broadcast blue,” allowing ntv’s signature red to emerge as the primary visual signifier and “Breaking News” indicator. This branding is projected across 70 sqm of high-resolution LED surfaces, creating a coherent and iconic visual identity that remains consistent across all platforms.
At the heart of the studio is a level of automation and robotic integration unprecedented in the German news landscape. To bridge the gap between creative ambition and technical execution, the studio was treated as a living digital ecosystem long before its physical completion.
The integration of the proprietary XRT software (www.xrt.studio) developed by Veech x Veech allowed for a hybrid workflow where every camera angle and graphical interaction was tested via real-time simulation. This “live prototyping” ensured full creative control over the final result before the first LED wall was installed, eliminating risks and accelerating the production process.
The result is a stringent spatial logic where AI-supported audio and voice-recognition teleprompters work in unison with robotic hardware featuring five robotic camera systems, including four roving units and an 18-meter ceiling rail cam. This high degree of automation is a strategic driver for editorial quality; by managing the technological complexity of live operations with maximum efficiency, the studio environment liberates the editorial team to focus entirely on the core mission of professional journalism, while ensuring absolute choreographed consistency in every movement.
